Giving Tuesday: Strengthening Black Immigrant Leadership Through Collective Giving

BICBP is a network and resource fund dedicated to strengthening Philadelphia’s Black immigrant-led organizations. Our mission is to increase capacity, build collaboration, and create sustainable systems that empower African and Caribbean-led organizations to thrive.

Giving Tuesday is here, and this year BDBC Services is shining a light on a project deeply rooted in community, collaboration, and collective empowerment: the Black Immigrant Capacity Building Project (BICBP).

For the past year, I have served as Vice Chair for this initiative, working alongside a dedicated team to support Black immigrant-led organizations across Philadelphia. Together, we’ve been learning how to strengthen our ecosystem through donor-advised funds, fiscal sponsorship, governance development, and capacity-building tools that help small organizations access the resources they need to grow.

As a second-generation Black immigrant, I’ve lived the reality of navigating systems without the cultural knowledge or institutional support that so many families need. Through BICBP, I’ve witnessed firsthand how funding, technical assistance, and community-centered leadership can shift the trajectory for grassroots organizations serving our people.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re inviting you to join us in expanding that impact.

Your contribution supports:

  • Training and technical assistance for Black immigrant-led nonprofits

  • Micro-grants that help organizations stabilize and grow

  • Leadership development rooted in culture, collaboration, and accountability

  • A stronger, more resourced ecosystem for our communities

Your support isn’t just a donation. It’s an investment in people who are building solutions, navigating complex systems, and strengthening Philadelphia’s Black immigrant community from within.

If you believe in equity, access, and supporting the leaders doing the work on the ground, I invite you to give today.

New Grant Opportunity: 2025 Black Immigrant Capacity Building Project (BICBP) Grants Now Open

The 2025 BICBP Grants will award $5,000 each to 10 local Black immigrant-led organizations in Philadelphia to strengthen their capacity through grant writing and community legal education.

This is the result of months of advocacy, organizing, and community-driven strategy — a testament to what’s possible when we work together to build power and sustainability for African and Caribbean immigrant communities.

At BDBC Services, we proudly support nonprofit organizations across Greater Philadelphia in building capacity, securing funding, and advancing equity-centered impact. Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of the 2025 Black Immigrant Capacity Building Project (BICBP) Grants, a new grant opportunity specifically designed for Black immigrant-led organizations in Philadelphia.

This program reflects a commitment to strengthen and sustain African and Caribbean immigrant nonprofits that play a vital role in the civic, cultural, and economic fabric of our city.

The City of Philadelphia’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (OIA), in partnership with the Philadelphia City Fund, is offering grants of $5,000 each to 10 selected organizations. Small, Black immigrant-led organizations often lack access to dedicated funding and technical assistance — despite being trusted anchors in their communities. These capacity building grants for Philadelphia nonprofits will help close that gap by providing much-needed resources to develop grant writing strategies or deliver community legal education.

At BDBC Services, our principal proudly serves as Vice Chair of BICBP and understands firsthand the challenges and opportunities facing immigrant-serving organizations. We know that targeted support can help these groups grow, thrive, and continue their essential work.
